EVERYONE DESERVES EQUAL NOBILITY
Eden Supportive Living is the nation’s first Supportive Living Facility created specifically for people with disabilities. Eden isn’t about real estate; it’s about providing independent, inclusive disability housing that gives every resident the freedom to live life their way.
Our mission is to improve the quality of life for adults with disabilities while removing barriers to independence. We build environments that are safe, accessible, and empowering—a true home where growth and dignity thrive. Disability housing should never feel clinical or cold; it should embody hospitality, respect, and love.
At Eden, every person deserves the chance to live their fullest life. That belief defines our name—Everyone Deserves Equal Nobility (E.D.E.N.)—and drives everything we do.
Our Story
In 2003, founder Mitch J. Hamblet witnessed the challenges faced by family members living with Multiple Sclerosis—and their fear of one day being placed in institutional settings. Determined to redefine possibilities, he founded Eden Supportive Living to deliver modern, compassionate disability housing in a community environment.
When Eden first opened its doors in 2005, it disrupted the outdated nursing home model. Built on a vision of supportive living for adults with disabilities, Eden became known for its modern design, managed‑care services, and focus on resident choice. Each community was conceived to encourage wellness, independence, and meaningful social connection.
Since that first location, Eden has continued to grow—offering award‑winning housing and care for thousands of people with disabilities across Texas and Illinois while staying true to its founding purpose.
SUPPORTIVE LIVING PROGRAM
In 1987, Illinois developed the Supportive Living Program (SLP) as an alternative to nursing home care for seniors. In 2005, with the persistence of the Eden Team, Eden Supportive Living developed the first for young persons living with disabilities.
The goal of the program is to preserve privacy and autonomy while emphasizing health and wellness for persons who would otherwise need nursing facility care.
Providers regularly assess each resident’s health status and consult with the resident on an ongoing service plan that promotes health and wellness. The Department of Healthcare and Family Services can assist with payment for some services that are not routinely covered. These include personal care, homemaking, laundry, medication assistance, social and health activities, recreation, and 24-hour staff to meet residents’ scheduled and unscheduled needs. The resident is responsible for paying the other costs.
By offering personal care and other services, residents live independently and take part in decision-making where personal choice, dignity, privacy, and individuality are emphasized.
AT eden,
We are constantly asking
"why not?"
Right now, we’re transforming the way health care is experienced by people living with disabilities. Only time will tell what’s next, but one thing is for sure; when tomorrow comes, we’ll be ready. We’ll be ready to think critically, cast visions and execute strategies that transform lives.
Why Us?
Eden Supportive Living is not just a new housing concept. It is a lifestyle designed for people with disabilities ages 22 and older who expect a better quality of living. At Eden, a person can live amongst their peers in exciting neighborhoods, while taking comfort in knowing there are licensed health professionals available to assist with daily living activities or health emergencies.
Built around the notion everyone is entitled to live with dignity, Eden is the answer for young adults searching for accessible housing with support services, while maintaining a more independent lifestyle (a resident can choose a studio, one or two bedroom apartment). Moreover, each socially-oriented community fosters inter-resident activity without forsaking a person’s privacy.
Safety is always a paramount concern at Eden. Every Eden apartment is equipped with at least two emergency pull switches. Staff is available to respond when a cord is pulled.
The real secret of Eden’s success is its staff. All of its wellness personnel are licensed health care professionals. Annually, the entire organization conducts a rigorous sensitivity training to better serve people with physical disabilities. From maintenance to dining, each employee’s goal is to make available the highest level of service while honoring the resident’s right to choose how to live their life.
